The first foal by Gr.1 winning two-year-old Marcel was born at Martin Walsh’s Kiltown Stud on Thursday night, and was bred by Marcel’s owner Paul Makin.

The bay colt is out of Visalia (Dansili), a daughter of 1000 Guineas heroine Virginia Waters and a half-sister to Listed winner Emperor Claudius, from the family of Chachamaidee, In The Wings and High Rise.

Martin Walsh said of the new arrival “he is a lovely, quality colt with great size, balance and a lot of presence”.

Bred by David Hyland, Marcel was trained by Peter Chapple Hyam and landed the Gr.1 Racing Post Trophy on just his third career start, ending up in the top 3 European two-year-old colts of his generation.

Other mares expecting his first foals this year include sisters to Dick Whittington and Moriarty, and Group/Listed winners Sesmen, Mahaatheer, Waterways and What’s Up Pussycat.

Marcel stands for the 2018 season at £5,000
