Irish Trilogy (Gregorian ex Maya de la Luz), trained by Andrew Kidney, has been crowned the Two-Year-Old Horse of the Year in Denmark.
Consigned by Olive O’Connor Bloodstock, Irish Trilogy was purchased as a yearling from the Goffs February Sale by Knut O.Arnesen before then being re-offered at the Scandinavian Open Yearling Sale and purchased by 360 North Horse Racing AB. He broke his maiden on his second start by 5 lengths over 7f at Klampenborg Racecourse in August, before his convincing victory again at Klampenborg in the 600,000 Kroner Danish Galops Auction Race three weeks later. In October Irish Trilogy stepped up to 1m and won the prestigious Swedish Winterfavourites, giving him 3 wins from only 4 starts and earnings of over £50,000.
His trainer Andrew Kidney said of the colt “It is an honour and a privilege to train such a well-mannered and talented horse. Now we will try to clinch the Swedish two-year-old horse of the year!”
Gregorian currently stands at 12.2% Stakes performers from his first crop, with his top rated progeny including Queen Jo Jo (3rd Group 2 Lowther Stakes behind Fairyland and The Mackem Bullet, who subsequently finished 1st and 2nd in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes), and Chynna (3rd Group 3 Ladbrokes Prestige Stakes and 3rd Group 3 Weld Park Stakes behind subsequent Group 1 Criterium International and Group 1 Fillies’ Mile runner-up Hermosa). Only No Nay Never and Kingman have produced more Blacktype horses this season among the first season sires.
