Spellers and Horses out of Training

We have developed a yard specifically to accommodate Thoroughbreds out of training, for rest and recuperation.

The National Stud’s Spelling Yard was opened in 2009 and to date has accommodated over 130 horses taking time out from training yards either for a rest or to recuperate after surgery.

Successful former residents of the yard include: 2010 Oaks heroine Snow Fairy; Royal Ascot and Gr.1 winner Equiano; Gr.1 winner Benbaun; Ayr Gold Cup winner Redford and black type winners Bushman, Les Fazzani and Our Jonathan to name a few. We are proud that we have horses come to us from trainers all over the country to spend time in our care.

  • American Barn Stabling
  • Lunge Ring
  • Horse walker
  • Cage, nursery and full size paddock turn out
  • Attending vets from Newmarket Equine Hospital; Rossdale & Partners and Baker McVeigh & Clements

Excellent facilities including a range of individual paddocks combined with daily vet visits to the stud ensure that your recuperating horse will be well cared for.

We work closely with our farriers O A Curtis & Sons and our feed specialists Dodson & Horrell to bring horses staying with us back to health and fitness at a speed that suits them and for the full benefit of their racing career.

Spellers daily boarding rates are £25 per day (+VAT) with vet, farrier and worming costs in addition.
