Pedigree Notes 2011/ 2012
As a grandson of the sire of sires, Nureyev, Dick Turpin is sure to cross well with the SADLER’S WELLS line, via the likes of Galileo, Montjeu, Barathea and In The Wings, as it will create line-breeding to Special. Sadler’s Wells’ sibling FAIRY KING and his descendants, TATE GALLERY and PERUGINO will create the same line-breeding.
DANEHILL is a line that will prove dynamite for Dick Turpin as the Nureyev/Danehill cross has produced the likes of Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Saoire and Prix Jean Luc Lagardere winner Siyouni. With so many Danehill line daughters available, there will be plenty of options for breeders but Danehill Dancer line daughters looks particularly attractive as he sired Monsieur Bond, who is from Dick Turpin’s family.
The GREEN DESERT branch has produced Arakan, one of his smartest performers. His Champagne Stakes (G 2) winner, Trumpet Major, is out of a Cape Cross mare while the useful Xilerator is out of an Owington daughter. Other Nureyev sires have sired stakes winners to daughters of Green Desert, Desert Sun and Magic Ring so mares by Invincible Spirit, Oasis Dream and Kheleyf are other options. Other DANZIG strains to consider include Anabaa and Chief’s Crown, via Grand Lodge, as they too have been dam-sires to Nureyev line stakes winners.
Dick Turpin holds a line of The Minstrel in his pedigree so breeding to the NIJINSKY line will create line-breeding to Flaming Page. With over 50 stakes winners bred on a Nureyev/Nijinsky cross, mares from Caerleon, Hernando, Green Dancer, Kahyasi and Royal Academy strains all look ideal.
Most other NORTHERN DANCER branches will cross well with Dick Turpin, but another line to really consider is the emerging TRY MY BEST strain, via Royal Applause, Last Tycoon and his son Marju.
The MR PROSPECTOR line will create plenty of opportunity for Dick Turpin as the Nureyev line has produced the Gr 1 winners Fasliyev, Byword and Excellent Art on the cross. Gulch, Woodman, Machiavellian, Distant View, Seeking The Gold and Miswaki are all proven dam-sires to the Nureyev line. Mares by Diesis, Kris, Selkirk and Trempolino are all proven with Nureyev. Another RAISE A NATIVE branch to consider is Exclusive Native’s son Affirmed.
Dick Turpin’s speed will certainly suit the HYPERION sire-line. Cadeaux Genereux, Efisio, Mind Games, Mummy Pet and Song are all from this sire-line.
The many branches of the NASRULLAH line are all worth considering. BLUSHING GROOM via Arazi, Groom Dancer, Nashwan, Rainbow Quest and Rahy have all produced stakes winners for the Nureyev sire-line, which includes Stravinsky. As Dick Turpin is out of a Caro line mare it could be worth using the ZEDDAAN strain as line-breeding to the GREY SOVEREIGN line. The Nureyev line Gr 1 winner Marchand de Sable is out of a Kenmare daughter while his Gr 1 winner, Marchand d’Or, is out of Kendor daughter. So it would be certainly worth trying mares by Highest Honor and his sons, such as Verglas. NEVER BEND line mares have also been a successful with Nureyev as the likes of Spinning World, Virtual and Pressing all show. Breeding to this line via Darshaan, Daylami, Doyoun, Irish River, Riverman, Mill Reef and Shirley Heights is all proven.
There have been four Gr 1 winners bred on Nureyev/ROBERTO cross which includes Ream Of Verse and Vallee Enchantee. Kris S, Lear Fan, Dr Fong, Red Ransom and Silver Hawk are all dam-sires proven with the Nureyev line. Daughters from AHONOORA line are certainly worth considering, particularly Indian Ridge who is the dam-sire to Halfway To Heaven (Gr 1).
