Quarantine

Printer friendly page
The ten yards spread out over the 500 acres of The National Stud lend themselves to the requirements for quarantines for import and export purposes. Up to 150 horses annually spend either three or four weeks under veterinary supervision prior to being flown to Australia, New Zealand, South America or South Africa. This facility, licensed by Defra, allows the horses the space and grazing to prepare for a long flight.

Jim Paltridge, Director (UK), of International Racehorse Transport, shippers of horses to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and South America, said:

"The Stud's quarantine facilities are excellent and secure and the size of the Stud ensures that it can offer plenty of space to turn out horses in quarantine. Horses in training have also been successfully quarantined for events such as the Melbourne Cup and Cox's Plate. This is possible as the Stud has access to gallops to allow training to continue throughout the quarantine period."
