Work Starts on National Stud’s New Student Hostel

20/07/2010

Redevelopment costing over £1.1million has started at Newmarket’s National Stud to improve student accommodation.

Funded by the Wavertree Charitable Trust, Childwick Trust, a private individual and the stud itself, the new hostel will open in January 2011.

Stud Chairman, Christopher Spence, said the old facilities had been in use for nearly fifty years: “They no longer meet the expectations of students or the stud’s aim to provide excellent facilities for all who attend our wide range of training programmes.”

There will be 24 en-suite rooms plus catering and leisure facilities in the new building which has been designed by Newmarket architects AGORA. Extending the original building and providing a flexible accommodation block, will enhance the stud’s role as the UK’s primary provider of staff training for the bloodstock industry.
