Friday 15th June
The weekend got off to a promising start when 2 year old debutante FLYMAN impressed for Richard Fahey on the Knavesmire (York). The Pastoral Pursuits colt showed early and traveled well during the 5f race and after drifting slightly when pushed, came on to win by 1 ¼ lengths from the 2nd placed horse Tanghan, also trained by Fahey.
Richard Fahey Commented: "Flyman is a horse we like, but he’s grown a lot and we won’t be in a rush with him. He could come back here for the big sales race in August.” (www.racingpost.com).
Also on Friday, Michael Easterby’s OLD MAN CLEGG by Pastoral Pursuits improved for a run when the 2 year old gelding came second later in the afternoon at York by 2 ¾ lengths. OLD MAN CLEGG is out of the Robellino mare Stolen Melody. The race also heralded a debut run for Bahamian Bounty sired filly BALINKA who made it home 3rd in the race and is out of Eurolinka (Tirol) who is the dam of 3 winners.
More success came further south when Bahamian Bounty’s 3 year old filly MUAAMARA, trained by Mick Channon was victorious in the Dermot O’Leary Stakes at Goodwood. The filly was a winner from her only run at 2 years old but has suffered 3 disappointing racecourse appearances this year; her loosing streak finally came to an end on Friday as she won comfortably by 2 lengths. MUAAMARA was bred by Robert Cornelius and is out of the Elnadim mare Mamma Morton.
Saturday 16th June
Despite best endeavors, Saturday brought no wins for National Stud sired horses. Bahamian Bounty’s MUCKY MOLLY proved the best of the older horses when coming 2nd at Lingfield on Saturday evening and RUSTIC DEACON managed the same at York for his sire Pastoral Pursuits.
However, Cockney Rebel’s runners continued to show promise. FIRST REBELLION continues to improve from a steady start to his 3 year old career and reversed the form from early May with ONE LAST DREAM who he beat in to third on this occasion.
REBEL MAGIC won her debut a month ago over the same course and distance (Bath), the 2 year old filly out of Aastral Magic (Magic Ring) was beaten by only ¾ of a length on her re-appearance.
