National Stud Chairman Christopher Spence Retires

The tenure of Christopher Spence as Chairman of The National Stud comes to an end at Christmas.  Mr Spence has been pivotal in forging a new direction and outlook for the Stud and his advice and leadership will be greatly missed.  To recognise the work that he has done since joining the board in 2007, staff and board members gathered at the Stallion Unit on 8th December to see him plant an Oak Tree.  The tree stands opposite the one planted by Her Majesty The Queen in 1967 to mark the opening of The National Stud in Newmarket.  The location was chosen as the Stallion Unit is Mr Spence's favorite part of the Stud.

At a lunch later in the day, he was also presented with a watercolour of the Stallion Unit painted by National Stud artist in residence Chris Winch.

Mr Spence who also retires as Chairman of Newbury Racecourse this year will be succeeded in his role at the Stud by Ben Sangster.
