David Somers to leave National Stud for new role in Australia

It was announced today that David Somers will be leaving the National Stud in late August to take up a new role in Australia, in time for the breeding season in the southern hemisphere. He is returning to Eliza Park stud farm in Victoria, where he was based for over three years prior to moving to his current job of Stud General Manager at the National Stud in January 2007.

David Somers said: “It was a tough decision to leave the National Stud and Newmarket. I have enjoyed my time here immensely and I’m proud of what has been achieved over the last eighteen months. Furthermore, under The Jockey Club’s ownership, the National Stud undoubtedly has an exciting future and a key role to play in the British Bloodstock Industry."

“However, Eliza Park approached me with an exciting opportunity and the chance to return to Australia with increased responsibility was the deciding factor in leaving the National Stud.”

Christopher Spence, Chairman of the National Stud, added: “We will be sad to see David go as he has been a great asset to the National Stud during his time here and we wish him every success in his new role.”
