First two foals of the season at The National Stud

The Never Say Die Club are celebrating the birth of two strong, healthy foals early in 2007.

The National Stud Never Say Die Club's mare Marciala gave birth to the Stud's first foal of the year on Tuesday 16th January. The foal, a brown colt by Fantastic Light, is closely related to Jalisco Light, a dual Listed winner and Group 1 placed in Japan. Marciala was purchased by the Club for 46,000 gns and her first foal, a two-year-old colt by Montjeu, was purchased for Michael Tabor and fetched 100,000 gns at Tattersalls October Yearling Sales Part 2 in 2006. He is among the early entries for the 2008 Derby. The mare also has a yearling filly by Sakhee and is booked to Hurricane Run.

The Club's mare Blushing Queen produced her fourth foal, a bay filly and the first foal on the ground by the Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes winner Doyen, on Wednesday 17th January. Blushing Queen has a yearling colt by High Chaparral and will now visit Val Royal.

Nigel Wright, Stud Operations Manager and a Director of the Never Say Die Club, is responsible for the management of the Club's horses. He commented "Both mares and foals are doing very well and we are delighted to have them on the ground so early in the year. Our enthusiastic members will have an opportunity to see them at their Open Day on 8th February. Both foals are strong and alert, with good bone."

The Never Say Die Club has two further in-foal mares: Jalissa, who is in foal to Avonbridge, and Least Said, who is due to produce a Pastoral Pursuits colt in early April.
