Blakeney Owner Breeders' Club
The National Stud is delighted to announce the launch of the Blakeney Owner Breeders' Club. The Club offers an exceptional opportunity to become closely involved in the breeding and racing of Thoroughbreds.
The Blakeney Club aims to broaden the interest of the general public in the breeding and racing of Thoroughbred racehorses and to make the ownership of broodmares, racehorses, and other bloodstock accessible to all. It will also educate the uninitiated in the acquisition, breeding and sale of this bloodstock, putting into training selected horses bred by the Club, whilst providing fun and enjoyment in the process.
Club membership costs £1,500, payable in three annual instalments of £500. A discount of £100 is available for those joining before the end of 2006. This covers five years' membership, until the close of the club at the end of 2011.
The Club will own three broodmares. One of the mares' offspring will be retained each year to go into training; the others will be sold as foals or yearlings. At the end of 2011, all horses owned by the Club will be sold and any balance of funds divided among Club members.
The three previous National Stud Owner Breeders' Clubs have enjoyed an excellent record in the sales ring and on the racecourse. Horses sold at auction by the previous Clubs have realised up to 135,000 guineas.
Winners sold by the clubs include:
- Screwdriver (winner of the Woodcote Stakes (Listed) at Epsom)
- Norisan (placed in the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown in 2007)
- Wavertree Boy (placed in Listed races at Newmarket and Ascot, earning over £31,000)
- Lucayan Dancer (winner of 7 races and over £78,000 in prize money)
- Dream Tonic (winner of 4 races and over £22,000 in prize money)
- San Zibi (winner of 9 races and £60,000 in prize money)
