Important New Appointment at National Stud

TABITHA SMITH has been appointed Training and HR Manager of the National Stud, in Newmarket, and will take up her position in the Autumn.

Tabitha gained a BA in Equine Studies at Coventry University and a Research MSc in Equine Biomechanics at the University of Bristol. She also holds a post graduate Certificate of Education. She is currently Curriculum Leader for Higher Education at Abingdon and Witney College.

Prior to that, Tabitha was a Lecturer at Plumpton College, Sussex, and had tutor responsibilities for students aged 16-45 on courses including the National Certificate in Horse Management, Advanced National Certificate in Equine Business Management and the Higher National Diploma in Horse Studies and Biological Sciences.

Andrew Parrish, Chairman of the National Stud, commented: "Tabitha is bringing a wealth of relevant experience with her and we are looking forward to her joining us. The provision of first class education and training is our top priority, and we have exciting plans for the development of the programme under the auspices of the newly formed Wavertree Charitable Trust".

Tabitha is greatly looking forward to her new role and explained "I am thrilled to be able to combine my experience and expertise in the educational field with my passion for horses. The existing courses are very highly regarded and I am looking forward to exploring ways of expanding the current programme, making learning opportunities available for a larger number of young people and providing an even better service to the Thoroughbred breeding industry".

At present, the Wavertree Charitable Trust offers three courses at the National Stud: the Modern Apprenticeship is available to school leavers aged 16 to 18 and the Diploma Course provides an intensive six-month period of training for those with some experience already and who wish to pursue their career at a higher level. In September, the inaugural Stud Secretaries' Course will cover all aspects of stud administration, including registration processes, health and safety, IT systems and even the art of digital photography.
