National Stud Boost by Prince Tamino
Premiere Dance, the dam of Saturday's valuable William Hill Trophy winner Prince Tamino, was purchased by The National Stud in 2001 as part of their business plan to develop a quality band of broodmares. Second at two, and a winner and twice second at three, Premiere Dance was bought as a maiden mare at Tattersalls December Sale for 70,000 gns. She is a halfsister to the Gr.1 winning sprinter Poplar Bluff. Prince Tamino is the successful outcome of a 2002 Mozart mating. Consigned to Tattersalls October Sales by the National Stud, he was sold for 40,000 gns to David Redvers Bloodstock Partnership. He won and was placed three times from five starts at two and, this season, he has produced two impressive wins in the space of five days and is proving himself to be a highclass three-year-old sprinter. His jockey Steve Drowne thought so much of the horse that he hired a plane at the personal cost of £800 in order to get him to York for the one ride before going on to Lingfield.
Premiere Dance (who is still part of the Stud's broodmare band, now totalling 23) produced a 2004 Sakhee colt, who was consigned by the Stud to last year's Tattersalls October Sale and sold for 90,000gns, and subsequently sold on at this year's Tattersalls Breeze Up Sale for 170,000 gns. The mare's 2005 filly by Observatory will be consigned this year to Tattersalls October Part Two, and she is in foal to Oratario. Following his three races in the last 16 days, Prince Tamino is now likely to be given a short break and will then be stepped up in class.
