Promising start to Deportivo's stud career

National Stud stallion, Deportivo, who was well supported by breeders in his first season at stud, has produced his first foal.

The first foal by this precocious son of Night Shift, an attractive filly out of Mr Mark Shipman's mare Swing Job, was born at the Stud on Tuesday evening.

Deportivo stood at the National Stud for his first season in 2005. Highly fertile, and with an excellent temperament, he is considered to be an exciting prospect.

General Stud Manager, Reid Coulter, said "Deportivo is a pleasure to deal with and it's great to have this nice early foal on the ground. The filly is a really good sort and has all her sire's best features. We're looking forward to seeing more of his foals born here over the next few months."

The National Stud has also seen the safe arrival of Desert Sun's first UK-sired foal since he joined the Stud's stallion roster at the end of 2004. On Monday evening, a chestnut filly foal was born out of the Stud's own Lindora's Glory, a 5-year-old mare out of Group One winner Lyric Fantasy.
