With 500 acres of prime pasture land, The National Stud is the perfect choice for owners and breeders looking for professional services for horses of all ages.

230 stables are divided between 10 purpose built yards. These range from 25ft x 25ft foaling boxes, to our yearling preparation yards complete with 6-horse-walker and lunge rings.

  • Yards are managed by dedicated, trained staff.
  • Yards are able to be isolated to deal with any disease occurrence with minimum disruption to the rest of the stud.
  • 24hr security provided by Newmarket Equine Security.
  • Veterinary work carried out by Newmarket Equine Hospital.
  • Farrier work by specialists O A Curtis & Sons, Newmarket; remedial farrier work undertaken by Mr Simon Curtis FWCF, Hon Assoc RCVS.
  • Local registered horse transporters travel mares and foals to covers, horses to the sales and vets, safely and hygienically.

Mares and mares with foals

We welcome barren, maiden, foaling mares, mares with foals at foot and mares visiting stallions on other studs in the Newmarket area and beyond. Our dedicated staff and veterinary team will prepare your mare to ensure she is covered at the optimum time.

Paper work for coverings will be prepared by our Stud Office and we aim to give all our owners regular updates by phone, fax or email on their horses throughout their stay.

Vet Scheme

Newmarket Equine Hospital run our vet scheme and are our primary practice on the stud; the team is lead by partner Huw Neal (MA, Vet MB, MRCVS). With the re-location of this veterinary practice, we are now ideally placed only half a mile from Europe’s newest and largest equine facility, providing the stud with consultation and emergency veterinary care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This Vet Scheme aims to spread the veterinary costs associated with preparing a mare for cover and includes most routine and necessary veterinary care for mares at The National Stud during the official breeding season.
